he Grow Everything podcast, hosted by Karl Schmieder and Erum Azeez Khan, explores the frontier of biotechnology and its transformative potential across sectors like chemicals, materials, sustainable agriculture, and bio-pharma. With each episode, listeners are introduced to pioneers who are reshaping industries and ecosystems, focusing on the intersection of science and practical solutions for global challenges. Whether delving into microbial technologies or future-focused healthcare, Grow Everything captures the synergy between biological innovation and sustainability, offering an insightful look at the forces shaping tomorrow’s bioeconomy.
In Grow Everything Episode #59, host Karl Schmieder sits down with Ginger Dosier, founder of Biomason, to explore how her revolutionary work in biocement production is transforming the construction industry with sustainable, carbon-neutral solutions. Biomason harnesses microorganisms to grow cement at ambient temperatures, drastically reducing the environmental impact of traditional methods. A member of the BIOME consortia, Dosier delves into collaborative efforts to innovate green building materials and the broader role of biology in reshaping urban landscapes, offering listeners a visionary perspective on sustainable architecture’s future.

About Ginger
Everything consumed is either mined or grown.
Out of the trillions of microbiological species, it has been estimated that we have only discovered .001%. By choreographing rapid discovery and characterization we can unlock a vast trove of microbiological blueprints for solving current and future global challenges through valorized diversity.
The journey of an architect, strategist and visionary began In 2005 with a simple question: “What if we could grow cement?” In 2012, Ginger co-founded Biomason to rapidly accelerate biological cement for the built environment where she served 11 years as the founding CEO, and on the Board of Directors. She grew the company and biocement technology from second bedroom lab, to international commercialization with over 50+ disciplines, multiple international patents granted, grant and venture capital through Series C, and significant US Government Department of Defense R&D demonstration contracts for extending biocement based applications beyond precast concrete.
She is most recently co-founder and Executive Director at BIOME Consortia, a globally distributed institute. BIOME Consortia was founded on the mission of accelerating the emergence of a new industrial bioeconomy, by establishing an interconnected global prospecting platform and archive; a constellation of subject matter partners, open-source standards, strain-banking and genomics, analytical tools and workflows; focused on unlocking the near-infinite potential of microbiology in shaping matter into useful forms.
Ginger Dosier currently holds multiple roles as advisor and Board Director, and has served as a professor of architecture at the American University of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates and North Carolina State University.
